What is HR 3.0?


Introduction

HR 3.0 is the latest evolution in fundamental human resource methodology.

Human resources has always been seen as a liability. Rather than having a centralized HR presence centred on being a driver in the development and empowerment of staff, it finds itself being outsourced to other departments such as Finance, IT or Operations.

HR 3.0 seeks to revive the importance of this vital function in the survival and growth of any organization by returning to its roots as a people-enabler rather than a management-pleasing policy-pusher.

But what about HR 2.0? Was there ever an HR 2.0?


HR 2.0

HR 2.0 was used in the late 90's to the near present to help give HR a sense of purpose and identity within the business community.

It has been touted by then-industry leaders as the gateway to improved company performance. It attempted to align HR to company strategic objectives and base its efforts solely on building the company's bottom line. Under this methodology, it placed more importance on catering to the needs of the company first, rather than acting as a neutral entity and acting as a catalyst for greater development and empowerment opportunities for the people within.

Yet with this present mission HR still struggles to gain the same level of respect as high-level functions like Administration, Finance and IT.

HR 3.0 aims to differentiate itself from this pattern of thinking, redefining HR into a central factor in the fulfillment and expansion of the organization's strategic objectives.


HR 3.0's Differentiating Factors

HR 3.0 is founded upon holistic knowledge and teachings and bases itself on the following principles:

  • To align itself with the people of the organization
  • Act as a true neutral party yet opting to keep the best interests of the people as its number one core purpose
  • Advocate greater involvement of staff in decision-making processes
  • Open opportunities for continuous professional development for staff to partake in
  • Serve as the fulcrum of company unity
  • Deeply root itself and the people as the life and blood of the company, and advocate the stance that the strength of the company is reliant on the strength of the people within
  • Work with management to improve conditions under which people conduct themselves and their jobs, opting to form an equal partnership in the stabilization of the company's future and the fulfillment of its objectives and goals.

HR 3.0 is the new way of thinking that helps alter the conventional attitude of this strategically-important function through becoming more people-focused and in tune with their human chemistry in order to achieve landmark performance and productivity.
