The Optimal Organization

By Steve Da Silva
Executive Policy Advisor & Director of External Relations

This is an informal introduction to the key elements that are extremely important to what we are committed to in making a reality within the business community and abroad.

What Blacktalon offers to companies of every size and scope is knowledge, strategy and confidence to become a socially cohesive, economically viable and growing company. It is a well known fact today throughout the larger market sphere that employer/employee relations are at its worst in decades.

The lack of spirit, initiative, and enthusiasm that creates such a huge void in most failing corporations is due to a few major factors that right now may be addressed in some detail.

Firstly, the growing apathy and sense of pessimism that is displayed in most major retail and wholesale outlets by the staff can be traced back to a procedure of homogenizing attitudes towards both the employees and their behaviours.

Basically, there is protocol for addressing and acknowledging employee behaviour by lumping together different aspects of applicable behaviour types, in creating or by choosing the most adequate way of responding to the problem, in whatever way that keeps things on top for the company itself, while the employees get treated highly unfairly.

There is a strict bureaucratic division between management and employees in most companies that promotes a high turnover rate as an economic tool for their use.

This treatment in any case is not taken well by the staff, who in turn lower their production, lose respect for what they do, and how they do it, customers suffer, and ultimately the sales well.

The second point is in the perspective of trying to better the sales of the organization by hammering down on the employees. Cutting hours, taking away certain privileges or narrowing them down to the point of nothingness; whatever can save the organization money is implemented by means of extraction of the employees. Workers are not just means to labour, but they are also means of certain types of resources.

For example, if an organization wants to lower the price of a product and put it on sale, the revenue lost by putting the particular commodity on sale can be regenerated very easily cutting down the employee hours, and the shrinking the division of labour, so that an individual may not only have less hours, but more work to finish within those less hours.

By these means the employees become a transparent form of resources that is calculated with the utmost subtlety. Another way of perceiving the problems within the corporation can be seen with the existence of the ‘us against them’ attitude that is very suggestive to everyone who works at the organization.

It creates battle lines amongst the workers and mistrust. This affects how much work is done and the hostility within the group as a whole will stifle sales if it is not kept in check. So, it is easy to see just how many corporations out there are failing horribly, simply because they are not relating themselves and the policies of their organization to the employees in a healthy manner.

What we at Blacktalon do is to show the upper management a different and new way of relating to their employees in a way that benefits both parties, however in the end, there truly will only be one, not two parties constituting the organization…
