Anecdote-a-Day Archives

September 4th, 2008

If we were to mention the CBC, or Google, or the Golden Arches, what would come to mind?

Logos and symbols are an essential aspect of culture that form the central basis of representation. Each unique symbol takes the essence of the group and puts it into one simple graphic which represents what that group stands for.

Take the Christian Crucifix, or the Nike "swoosh". These simple icons or symbols need no formal introduction as anyone can merely identify without second guessing what those two symbols mean.

How it gets communicated matters. If it's perceived in a negative way, then the entire group will be perceived as such, regardless of virtue or mission.

What sort of symbols, logos or icons do you integrate into your organization? How well do they represent what it is your group does and stands for? Someone is always watching.

"A tragedy is a representation of an action that is whole and complete and of a certain magnitude. A whole is what has a beginning and middle and end."
