Anecdote-a-Day Archives

August 20th, 2008

Humans were a very lucky species. We've been given such limber bodies, mental capabilities so far beyond the average animal, and an ability to overcome anything that comes our way.

So why do we continue to hinder ourselves and our own fulfillment beyond what we are capable of now?

Why have we let our societies dictate what can and cannot be done? Why do we impose a structuralist regime on our own brethren who are trying just as hard to extend themselves into the outer limits of what we can do as a race?

Ever watch a leader-less team in action? They function at such high intervals that the need for a leader is nearly a moot point - simply because they all know what to do and are ultimately responsible for its outcome on a mutual level. We as a human race have seemingly devolved into one that always needs a leader or guiding figure to "show us the way" when we are fully capable of achieving things ourselves without the blind pointed finger of someone who has the internal audacity to think they are "better than us".

This type of structuralist and longing for that helping hand is putting a kink in what many organizations are attempting to achieve. Many a time a manager gets frustrated whenever someone constantly comes to them for help, yet are always the first to tell people how to do things without the person in question having a chance to experience it themselves. Self-discovery soars much further than by the meagre hand of someone else.

By constantly holding hands of people, you're preventing them from being able to be self-sufficient and self-reliable to the point where they will be fully capable themselves to hunt and fend for themselves.

Skills and potential are being suppressed, and ingenuity is being annulled simply because of the structured mess we've imposed on ourselves for centuries of existence.

Let's change that today. You'd be amazed at what you can do if you simply just do it without any regrets.

"A tragedy is a representation of an action that is whole and complete and of a certain magnitude. A whole is what has a beginning and middle and end."
