Throughout history there
have been people who've questioned "modern" thought and, as
a result, were mocked, ostracized or killed.
They're thought to be blasphemous.
Someone dare challenge the pack or the leader? For shame! Off with his
head!
But they remained staunch
and stood throughout the entire barrage with a solid and fortified stance.
Even if their convictions got them killed (or in this case, fired),
they did not give in to the overpowering effect of the "herd"
or leaders' influence on their life.
What's funny is how the
mentality begins to slowly change after the infiltrator is gone. "Hey,
maybe he was right after all!" Not so good for the person
who literally sacrificed their lives/careers to alter that change or
to insert some open-minded insight into the minds of others.
We see this all the time
in our workplaces: staff who challenge management are either written-up
or fired for insubordination. Free speech? Doesn't seem like it!
This is where HR 3.0 comes
into play. It opens up communication channels and removes the barriers
that ultimately instigate these type of "witch hunt" endeavours
in the workplace.
When businesses begin to
adapt an environment wherein the contributions of staff are considered
on an equal level as those in "power" positions, then the
slaughter-at-the-stake will never have to be executed again.
For as it stands, businesses
who shun staff and turn their backs on them are in fact losing out on
many great ideas and potential revenue sources.
